My good friend Dr. Richard Kogelnig, a co-leader of a private Healthcare and Prevention Clinic in Innsbruck, Austria, shared a shocking observation with me. During his 30 years as a doctor, he has seen many patients who sacrificed their health in order to make a successful career. Dr. Kogelnig says that the excessive stress these people are experiencing literally weakens their blood cells (drying them up) and provokes severe diseases.
Over-striving for money is the downfall of everyone at one time or another. It leaves us defenseless and under attack from “the god of gold,” whose purpose is to deceive and destroy us with “our choice” of forced and stressful labor.
As a young businessman, I worked hard to succeed as a “deal maker.” At that time, I did not ask for the Lord’s guidance, and relied on my own ways and schemes. I was blind to the fact that I was running on the never-ending hamster wheel, ruining my health and relationships.
Today I realize that it was not God’s way. Proverbs 10:22 states, “It is the Blessing of the Lord that makes rich, and He adds no sorrow, toil or pain to it.” I want you to understand that God’s Blessings produce lasting success and well-being, not hurt or turmoil. These negative emotions often result from going the wrong way or following wrong concepts.
Proverbs 3:14-18 says, “Wisdom’s profit is better than the wealth of silver, and her gain is better than fine gold. She is more precious than rubies; and nothing you desire or wish for compares with her [wealth and value]. LONG LIFE is in her right hand; in her left hand are RICHES & HONOR. Her ways are highways of pleasantness and favor, and all her paths are peace. She is a tree of life to those who grasp and hold on to her.”
Isn’t it amazing that the Divine Wisdom offers us both health and wealth? Are you willing to receive these wonderful gifts from her hands?
If you want to enjoy a healthy life and have riches that don’t cause sorrow, remember: the transformation has to start with your mind—your concepts. Romans 12:2 teaches us, “Do not be conformed to this world’s way of thinking, but be transformed (experience metamorphosis) by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.”
If you find yourself toiling for money at the expense of your health, it’s time to pay close attention to God’s instructions. “Take hold of instruction; do not let go. Guard her, for she is your long and happy life” (Proverbs 4:13).
